These Trees

Before the pandemic, commuting home through The Presidio of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, I decided to paint specific stands of trees. But a number of things stalled my start until after the stay home orders.

The trees were at their natural end of life. Limbs broke in storms. Beatles spread bark disease. Arborists had an expert plan for safety and replanting. Many large stands were cut to stumps and I missed my chance to paint. But I had drawings. I learned to get on with it. Old gnarly trees get chainsawed in San Francisco.
